Watching CNN this morning, I saw a piece by Dr. Sanjay Gupta about Twinkies. They claimed to be "deconstructing" the Twinkie to explain what the artificial ingredients do and replace. Well, they put up a statement from Hostess that I found far more philosophical than I expected from the good folks who make Twinkies:

"Deconstructing the Twinkie is like trying to deconstruct the universe. Some people look at the night sky and see something beautiful, others try to count the stars."

Wow.

Yay me!

I passed my comprehensive exams today (see picture below):

Am I happy? Most definitely. Was it a little anti-climatic? Sure. And am I just sitting around watching TV now? You bet!

Insanely catchy

So there are these two television commercials playing up here in Canada, both featuring insanely catchy songs by the Toronto-based band Major Maker. The first song, for Maynards candies (really just non-chocolate Cadbury products) is called "Rollercoaster" though it was originally just called the "Candy Song" because the band only wrote a 30 second bit for the ad and it wasn't an official release. It is now being played on the radio as a full-length song, and you can buy it from iTunes, if you like. Watch the video of the ad below:

The second nastily-catchy song is also from a Canadian ad for the blood-sucking cellular company Telus. Telus's schtick is to use "cute" animals in its ads to entice you to buy. I enjoyed their run using bunnies. They've been through monkeys and frogs and birds... well, now they are on fish. They're running this ad with this little purple fish that just talks and talks and talks (you can see how much he is talking because of all the bubbles from his mouth) and the other fish look really bored or are actually swimming away from the little purple babbler as quickly as they can. Needless to say, I sort of feel sorry for the little purple fish, though it is probably a nitwit and doesn't realize that he is probably telling racist jokes no one wants to hear. Clearly, I've put far too much thought into this ad. Anyway, the music in this ad is "All I Wanna Do is Talk to You" and it has a cute little synth riff that somehow is as mindless as the little purple fish. Like the little purple fish, it gets in your head and won't get out. This song will be released as a full single in a few weeks. Watch it below:

Peace out.
