Dying of the Plague

Justin brought the plague into our home and now I am dying of it. Lots of phlegm, headache... coughing? You bet. So now we're both sick and all I can manage to do is to lie around grading undergrad term papers. Blech. Probably not the fast track to feeling better, but at least I can be productive and sick at the same time, which is pretty rare. For now, back to the sanitarium.

Our new tree!

Today, we adopted a bonzai tree:

The mud men playing Go were a gift from Justin's friend, Michael Sawyer who is stationed in Korea. We bought the tree from a man selling them on a corner. He made all of the trees himself and he had some really beautiful ones we couldn't afford. Anyway, Justin and I love our tree and we'll need to give it a name eventually.

Poor Kansas

Kansas has been, and I am sure will continue to be, the brunt of many jokes. Here's the newest:

There is a good Kansas joke in one of the old Bond movies too, where Bond is being shown the Diabolical Weapon du Jour by whatever bad guy was in that movie... Dr. No or something... and he mentions something like the missle could blow up Kansas, but he wouldn't bother because no one would notice for several months.

So Kansas is much maligned, and it is deserving of most of it considering how horrendously mismanaged the place is. Still, it COULD be a cool place. And I can tolerate most of the joking... just not the Wizard of Oz whitticisms. Wow, I was quite alliterative in this post...
